Smyth’s Apple Orchard is a family- run business that has its beginning in the mid-1800’s…situated at historical Dundela, where two monuments commemorate John McIntosh, who discovered an apple tree in his back yard. Through careful attendance and grafting by his son, Allen, the native apple grew in popularity and was appropriately named the McIntosh Red. McIntosh orchards throughout the world originated from this single tree...

What We Offer!

Customers can purchase many heritage varieties of apples, starting at the end of July with Transparents, Vista Bella, Melba, Jersey Mac, Paula Red, Lobo, Wealthy and working our way up to the famous McIntosh ( experience the true flavour of a Mac grown in its birth place) and ending out harvest season with varieties such as Spartan, Empire, Russett, Tolman Sweet, Red and Golden Delicious, Northern Spy, Royal Gala, Honey Crisp, Jonothon – just to mention a few well known apple varieties. There are also three varieties of Pears and Crab-apples.

Growing Season!

During the summer months, apple growers will continue to mow the orchards and monitor the fruit for insects and disease. They will also irrigate the orchards if the summer is dry and thin the apple trees (remove some apples) if there are too many apples on the tree. At the end of the summer, apple growers begin preparing for harvest. This includes hiring people to pick the apples and making sure the machinery and trucks are ready to go...
